Caroline Kalich Obituary

Caroline M Kalich, of New Stanton, passed away on Thursday July 18, 2024. She was born in Morgantown, WV, to the late Philip and Kathryn (Wright) Kalich. She grew up in Uniontown and Youngwood. She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Youngwood where she sang in the choir, played the organ and was compliance recorder for employee and volunteer clearances. Caroline was a 1968 graduate of Hempfield Area High School, graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1972 and then then later at Point Park College in Pittsburgh. She worked at Charley Brothers grocery warehouse, later named Supervalu. She was also a writer, photographer and member of the editorial staffs at the Advisor, a Laurel Group newspaper, and The Catholic Accent, published by the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg. She returned to Supervalu to work in the Advertising Department, which was later acquired by GA Communications of Atlanta, GA, where she was a proofreader, typist and account executive. Caroline was also a typist in the Welfare Office in the Pittsburgh before retiring. In retirement she helped at the Greensburg SVDP store and sang with the Laurel Harmony Chorus of the Sweet Adelines. When active in the Secular Franciscan Order, she was a founding member of San Damiano Fraternity which originally met at Holy Cross Church. Caroline also belonged to the Croatian Fraternal Union, being a member of the Yukon Croation Club, "Sv. Nikola Brodar" Lodge 432 where she was recoding secretary for several years. The lodge was then closed and merged with "Saints Peter and Paul" CFU Lodge 72 in Uniontown, where she served. Caroline is survived by a brother, Philip E. Kalich, and his partner, Paula Fawcett of Greensburg; her sister-in-law, Catherine Kalich; her nephews, Justin Kalich and Craig Kalich, her niece Judy Kalich; her two great nephews, a great niece and numerous cousins. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 22, at 10 am. in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 711 Depot Street, Youngwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society Thrift Store, 123 S Main Street, Greensburg.
