Devoted family man, Charles C. Ferguson, 79, of Southwestern Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023. Chuck was a man of faith, committed to the service of Jesus Christ and his church family as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He was quietly and fiercely protective of his wife and family. Some of his favorite times were spent snuggling and napping in his recliner with his grandchildren amid the chaos of a festive Sunday dinner with the family. He was a man of many talents. In addition to expertise in electronics, he was a locksmith, a sound engineer, mechanic, computer geek, and Bible scholar. He enlisted in the Navy in 1966 and served in Vietnam as a nuclear reactor operator on the submarine, USS Ulysses S. Grant in both the Pacific and Atlantic. After an honorable discharge in 1974, he went to work at Westinghouse Electric, and retired in 2009 after a long successful career as a rod-control expert and nuclear training engineer. Chuck was born April 26, 1943, in Hillsboro, Oregon, and preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mary Ferguson; and his brother, Bill. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Barbara (Lawrence), Charlie (Jack) and Lacey (Rodney); and grandchildren, Sydney (David), Rika, Ella, Kaydee (Ben), Liam, Leighana, Izzy and Connor. Married for 58 years to the love of his life, Chuck and Kathy embodied the sacred commitment of love through sickness and health. Chuck battled meningioma for 36 years, bravely recovering from multiple brain surgeries, never failing to trust that God had a plan for him despite his struggle. He spent his last days surrounded by the love of his whole family and passed peacefully on Easter Sunday morning. A celebration of his life for all family, friends, and colleagues will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 792 South Center Ave., New Stanton, PA 15672. Arrangements entrusted to the C. RICHARD MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood. Condolences may be left at www.crmfh.com.
