Dorothy J. (Hall) Detwiler, 81, of Youngwood passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2020. She was born September 25, 1939 in Connellsville, Pa, the daughter of the late Melvin (Nick) S. Hall and Ruth (Fuller) Hall. She was preceded in death of her husband of 58 years, Martin N. Detwiler. She is survived by her son, Cris (Molly) Detwiler of New Stanton, PA and grandson, Casey J. Detwiler. She was a private piano teacher for over 60 years. She performed as an organist for many weddings, funeral services and church services in the southwestern Pa church community for over 50 years. She was an instructor and supporter of the Westmoreland County Literacy council for over 20 years. She was a lay minister for several years for the United Methodist church community. She sang with the Westmoreland Choral Society for several years. She was employed as a music instructor for continuing education for Westmoreland County Community College for several years. She was a twenty year cancer survivor. She was in the first graduating class of the Hempfield Area High school, class of 1957. The family is having a private service. In lieu of flowers, the family have requested that you make a donation to the music department of Hempfield Area School district or the United Methodist Church community. The family expressed their ‘Thanks and appreciation’ to the nurses and staff at the Harmon House and the Amber House in Mt. Pleasant, Pa and for the staff and hospice team of the Medi Home Hospice in Scottdale, Pa.
