Edward Smartnick Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. Born in Youngwood on August 10, 1935, Edward lived a life marked by hard work, wisdom, and devotion to his beloved wife. He was a longtime resident of Donegal before later making his home in Avonmore. Edward proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in 1960. Following his military service, he worked for many years at Westinghouse and Volkswagen. He was also the owner and operator of Donne Lake Campground, where he created lasting memories for many families, as well as his own family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann, and his sons, Timothy and David. Edward is survived by his children: Edward Jr. and his wife Amy; Lori Ann; Lisa and her husband Craig Patoka; and Eric and his wife Amanda; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his steady presence, love of fishing, traveling, storytelling, and the deep pride he had in his family. His legacy lives on in those who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to special friend Brenda Jackman of Ligonier for her kindness, support, and friendship. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 2, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, in the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home, 101 S 4th Street, Youngwood. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 10 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 711 Depot Street, Youngwood. Interment will follow in the Youngwood Cemetery.
