Elinor Margaret Book

Elinor passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023, at Carecore at Willowood Nursing Facility in Brunswick, OH where she resided for the past seven years. She was 95 years old. She was born on May 25, 1927, in New Stanton, a daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Anderson. As a young girl she learned to ride horses and helped her mother with housekeeping. She married her husband, C. Melvin Book on Nov. 26, 1947, and they were married for 66 years until his death in 2013.  They lived on Warwick Drive in Greensburg for over 60 years. They enjoyed traveling and went on many trips including to Hawaii, California, Florida, Niagara Falls, and two World Fairs. They had one son, Dennis Ray Book. Elinor was dedicated to her family and spent time keeping her home beautiful, her flowers and yard lovely, and preparing large meals for her family to enjoy.  She enjoyed collecting glassware. She especially doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. During her last years she particularly enjoyed bingo, auctions, the Donkey Drop, Halloween and Easter parties, and visits from her grandchildren. Elinor was a member of the South Greensburg United Methodist Church for many years where she was active with the women's groups. Elinor worked at the Porcelier Factory in Youngwood and for Krogers Grocery Store in Greensburg, in various positions. Elinor is survived by her son, Dennis (Beverly) of Brunswick, OH, grandsons, Steven (Melissa) and Russell (Diana) and four great grandchildren, Giuliana, Kendall, Brandon, and Dylan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews including her niece, Bonnie Neiderhiser, with whom she was exceptionally close. Elinor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Arthur (Hilda) and Ken (Dorothy), and one sister, Shirley (Carney) Neiderhiser. On behalf of Elinor, her family would like to thank the Willowood Staff for their care and concern and the Activity Department for making the days fun! A visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, from 10-11 AM, with a service to follow at 11, in the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home Inc. 101 S. 4th Street, Youngwood. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
