Elvira Virginia (Bertocci) Weiss, 93, of Youngwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 20, 2024, at Easy Living Country Estates, surrounded by her loving family and her personal care aides. She was born on October 9, 1930, in Charleroi, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Andreola) Bertocci. Elvira was a graduate of Charleroi High School, Class of 1949. She was a talented accordion player and played in numerous bands around the Mon Valley area in her youth. Elvira was Catholic by faith and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Youngwood. She worked as a beautician in Charleroi and later she worked at the sewing Factory in Youngwood. She also worked at Westmoreland County Community College and retired from there in 1995. Elvira was known far and wide for her extraordinary sewing skills, specializing first in pillow-quilts, then in stuffed bears which she gave away to family and friends, tailoring each one to the intended recipient. Elvira will also be remembered for her incredible baking and cooking skills (Italian and German), especially her cherry patch pie, pizzelles, homemade bread and Friday night pizzas. Her unconditional love and support for family and friends will never be forgotten and will be part of her everlasting legacy. Elvira is survived by her loving children, Katherine McGinnett (Clyde), of Youngwood, Paula Weiss, of Oakmont, Gregory Weiss (Kathleen), of New Stanton, Mary Hargnett (John), of Greensburg, and Joseph Weiss (Kris), of New Stanton; her grandchildren, Hannah Hixson (Nathan), of Greensburg and Meisha Perry (David), of Florida; her step grandchildren, Jill Serge, of Greensburg and Kurt Gainfort (Angel), of Pitcairn; two great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. Elvira is also survived by her brother, Virgil Bertocci, of Monessen, her brother-in-law, Leo Weiss, of Lubbock, TX. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Elvira was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph P. Weiss in 1989. A Memorial Mass will be held on October 5, at 11 am, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 711 Depot Street, Youngwood.
