Helen Brown Obituary

Helen Brown, 92, formerly of Youngwood, passed away on Saturday January 20, 2024, at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born on February 27, 1931, in Derry, the daughter of the late James and the late Helen (Pletenik) McGinnis. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Frederick J. Brown; her sister, Shirley Dorazio and her brother, James McGinnis. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church in Youngwood. Helen's faith was paramount in her life, and she was always active in church related organizations and activities. She loved bowling, casinos, the Steelers, watching QVC and playing blackjack. Helen's family, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy in life. Helen is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Al) Bodnar and Susan (Scott) Soroko; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff) Oravec, Allison (Wade) Campbell and Steven Soroko; her great grandchildren, Will, Maryn, Jackson, Paige and Keaton. She is also leaving behind her Redstone PC Family, comprised of wonderful loving staff and many residents who became close friends, all of whom also became her "extended family". For Helen's PC staff who became family, "take a piece of candy as you leave". A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 24, at 10 AM. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 711 Depot Street, Youngwood. Everyone please go directly to church.
