Jacob Free Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Jacob V. Free, our free-spirited, adventurous son, brother, love, and friend on October 29, 2023. Born in Greensburg, PA on August 3, 1990, the son of Jerry Free (Mary), of Greensburg and Tonia Price (Rick Zapor), of Greensburg. Jake started his adventures with one speed-GO! From a young age, Jake loved the outdoors. He spent many days throughout his life camping, kayaking, snowboarding, skateboarding, shooting guns, climbing rocks, hunting, and fishing—if it was outside, he was there, and if it involved fire, even better! Jake was a true survivalist and was prepared for anything—if the apocalypse happened, he had the skills, knowledge, supplies, and weapons to get us through. An avid collector of many things, you could find Jake at antique shops, flea markets, or driving around the neighborhood looking for treasures. He had a creative eye and creative mind and loved to build and invent things and give chaotic gifts. He was also a skilled painter, builder, contractor, and roofer. Jake loved his family and friends and roped us along for many of his escapades over the years. Alex, the love of his life, and their two dogs JMo and Babs, were his favorite adventure companions. Whether it was hiking on trails, going to the dog park, walking around the neighborhood, or a quiet night in, they were always by Jake’s side. In addition to his parents, Jacob is survived by the love of his life, Alex Markey; his siblings, Corinne Free, of Denton, TX.; Krystyna Ranenswinder (Michael Zimmerman), of Greensburg, Michelle Ranenswinder, of Munhall and Mari-Terese Donofrio (Michael), of Greensburg; his niece, Layla Robertson, of Greensburg; his paternal grandmother, Kay Free- Sofranko, of New Stanton and we can’t forget about the newest addition, Tres the hamster, his tiniest newest adventure buddy, who was smuggled into the hospital and brought him so much happiness in his last days. A visitation for family and friends will be held on, Thursday, Nov. 2, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. in the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home Inc. 101 S 4th Street, Youngwood. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, at 11 AM in the funeral home. Jacob lived every day fearlessly—like it was his last—and believed anything was possible. He taught us all to dream big, and to take any opportunity to have an adventure. He had the biggest heart, an ornery smile, and the most contagious laugh—Jake brought joy and wonder to everyone he knew. He was a cool guy—no allergies.
