Lewis E. Baker
Lewis E. Baker, 96 of Greensburg died Friday December 21, 2018 at Westmoreland Manor. He was born January 28, 1922 in Midway-StClair (Hempfield Twp). a son of the late Albert and Gertrude (Altman) Baker. As a teenager he worked at Henderson's farm and nursery, then at American Flint Glass. He was a WWIIUSArmy veteran serving as a Staff Sargent in the US Army Engineers in Japan. He worked construction all his life. He worked at Eidemiller's, He did crane work at the Nike Sites at Carnegie, Irwin and Rte 28. He stripped coal and was a member of the United Mine workers union-Carpentertown, Carpenter's union-Elmira NY, and retired as a crane operator at Dickerson Corp. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He restored a 1933 green Ford half ton truck and an antique coal pitwagon. Both were in numerous parades in Youngwood, Mt Pleasant and Latrobe. Displayed both at New Centerville Farmers and Threshermen's Festival. He loved camping and yard work. He was still cutting grass this past summer. He was proud of his poppies along the 5 star trail. He was a member of the Youngwood A&B Club, the Armbrust Veterans Assoc. He was a player and manager for the Foxtown baseball team.. He loved watching the Steelers and the Pirates.He is survived by his wife Shirley (Doerr) Baker five children Sandra Poerio & husband Dave-Vero Beach FL, Lewis Edward Baker & wife Irene-Elizabeth PA, Renee King-Belle Vernon, Tom Shean & wife Patty Greensburg, Don Shean & wife Linda-Latrobe. a sister Pearl DeMary-New Alexandria, 15 grandchildren David Jr, Dee Dee, Furie, Peter, Tom, Lance, Richie, Crystal, Linda, Jeannine, Heather, Caitlin, Carly, Carter, & Jared and numerous great and great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son Keith Baker, two grandsons Michael and Lewis Edgar, five brothers Arthur, Alvin, Russel and two infant brothers. Three sisters Anna Jane Smalley, Myrtle Pickett and Evelyn Baker. Friends will be received at the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home Inc, Youngwood, Wednesday December 26 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Thursday December 27th at 11:00 am with Pastor Wayne R Rhodes Jr officiating. The interment will be held 1:00 pm Monday December 31, 2018 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville PA.
