Patricia “Patty” Swettlen, 80, of Youngwood passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 3rd in Port Orange, Florida where she has wintered for the past 9 seasons. She was born June 5th, 1943, in Pittsburgh, the only daughter of the late Michael George and Anna Mae (Humm) George. Marrying her high school sweetheart, she raised two boys while she worked in an array of professions, most notably as an independent business owner with her husband running both gas stations, a beer distributor in Youngwood, and a tire supply company in the region. In her later professional years, she worked as a certified nursing aide at St. Anne and later at Westmoreland Manor. After retiring, she split her time between Youngwood, Pennsylvania and Port Orange, Florida. Patty’s upbeat personality and adventurous spirit made it easy for her to make many new friends. She lived life to the fullest to the very end. Patty was constantly on the go either meeting friends for lunch, playing dominoes, cheering on the Steelers, shopping at Walmart, going on bus trips, or chatting with her girlfriends on the phone. She never missed an episode of Young and the Restless and she was always on the lookout for a new Vera Bradley purse to add to her large collection. Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Swettlen and her parents. She is survived by two sons, Robert Swettlen II and wife, Donna Swettlen of Ruffs Dale; Timothy Swettlen and his wife, Kelly Smith of Boulder, Co. She had one granddaughter that she doted on, Kalena Swettlen. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wed., Jan. 10 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM in the C Richard McCauley Funeral Home Inc. at 101 S 4th St, Youngwood. A blessing service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 11 AM in the funeral home with a social gathering afterwards. A Celebration of Life will be hosted in February in Port Orange.
