Richard W Shaver, 83, of Ruffsdale, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday January 24, 2024. He was born in McKeesport on March 24th, 1940, the son of the late William and Dorothy (Knopp) Shaver. Richard graduated from Hempfield High School and then attended WVU. He was a Journeyman tool and die maker/ manufacturing engineer, he owned several companies, and retired from Penn State Tool and Die. Richard was an accomplished great lakes charter captain, had his private pilot license, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time at his camp. He had a small farm and maintained a "hunger garden" that provided fresh produce for those in need. He was recognized by the US Congress for this contribution. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan (Sullenberger) Shaver, two daughters, Virginia (Paul) Knor and Elizabeth Shaver; his sisters, Linda (Anthony) DeBernardo and Diane (Wayne) Fox; and his numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 27, from 10-1 PM, with a service to follow, in the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home Inc. 101 S 4th Street, Youngwood.
