Virginia Zupanc Obituary

Virginia “Jean” Johanna Zupanc, of Youngwood, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, surrounded by love and family. Born on March 1, 1932, in Duluth, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Anton Oblak and Mary (Henigman), and often reflected fondly on her childhood, saying she grew up “in the best of times.” Jean worked for Anchor Hawking and later as a nurse’s aide at Westmoreland Manor for 25 years, where her compassion and dedication touched countless lives. She was a voracious reader who cherished a good story, and she delighted in dressing up, having a hot cup of tea, flowers, laughing, traveling, going on long drives, cats, critiquing restaurants and having adventures. Her generosity was boundless—she cared deeply for her family and gave freely to causes close to her heart. A devout Catholic, her life was guided by her strong faith in God. Jean found joy in visiting different churches and practicing her faith daily. She thanked God every day for the blessings in her life. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Mary Oblak; her husband, Frederick Zupanc; brothers Eddie, Johnny, and Jimmy Oblak; and sisters Fran Steinke and Marion Renko. She is survived by her sister, Anne Purcell of Duluth, MN, and will be lovingly remembered by her children, Frederick Zupanc (Cindy) and Frank Zupanc (Grace); grandchildren Shara Kapr (Kirk), Fred Zupanc (Sarah), Christine Zupanc, Frankie Zupanc, Daryl Martin (Brandi), and Michelle Egan; great-grandchildren Kyleigh Martin (Tyler), Austin Martin (Sophia), Jazmine Unglaub, Cassidy Unglaub (Michael), Madison Unglaub, Kiera Snyder-Zupanc; and great-great-grandson Liam Unglaub. She will also be dearly missed by her nieces—especially “Bugsey” Dolores Ernette and Tara Gorscak, her devoted caregivers Kellie Welsh and Liz Zupanc, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday October 16, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, in the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home, 101 S 4th Street, Youngwood. A celebration of life Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in Youngwood. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery. Jean will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith—a woman whose heart and spirit touched everyone blessed to know her.
